About the workshop

LABYRINTHS AND LABS
Labyrinths are places we must find our way across. Laboratories are also places where we expect to make findings. Labyrinths and labs open up their own peculiar time and space, rather independently of what might be happening outside their walls. Yet we enter the labyrinth with our hopes to find our way out, and what one does in a laboratory would be fruitless if their discoveries weren’t put to test out in the open. They are places we enter with hope and expectation. In this five-day workshop on the island of Santorini, he will invite participants to adopt a labyrinthine working method by playing a game with him. Each of them is going to be assigned a starting point and a series of prompts along the way. These will incessantly lead the participants from our “laboratory” in Akrotiri to the “labyrinth” of Santorini and back again, until their project is completed and exhibited on the island. This workshop, though, is not so much about outcomes as it is about process and about opening up a space for experimentation, dialogue and debate. Participants will be invited to engage with each other’s works and exchange feedback. He will provide participants with indications, references, practical tools and theoretical inputs, as well as sharing with them his experience working with photographic projects.
