Colour as a Language
What if colour is not something we see, but something we feel, read and use to transform reality?
At first glance, colour seems to bring photography closer to the real world. Unlike a painter, a photographer does not freely choose the colours that make up an image; they work with the colours offered by the world.
Yet colour photography is far from a simple record of what we see. Colour can shift reality, alter our perception, create emotion and give an image a completely different meaning. It can become a language of its own.
This workshop aims to explore colour as a genuine photographic language. Can colour become a principle of composition? How can it direct attention, evoke emotion or shape a narrative? At what point does it cease to simply describe reality and begin to create meaning?
Through image analysis, discussion and practical exercises, we will explore these questions and seek to develop a more personal and conscious approach to colour.
The workshop is open to photographers and artists of all levels who wish to deepen their understanding of colour and strengthen their photographic practice. Throughout the week, we will photograph in Santorini, using the island as both a landscape and a laboratory for experimentation. Through a series of shooting sessions, we will explore different ways of approaching colour while developing an individual photographic project.
By the end of the workshop, each participant will have produced a small dummy bringing together a selection of their images, reflecting the research and experiments developed throughout the week.
